Farmer’s Wave

A friend pointed this out to me a couple of years ago, although I was not familiar with the term I knew what she meant. It is one of the few things that I miss about living in Lebanon, the farmer’s wave. You from small towns or the county know about this. It is the small wave you do with your finger (not that one) while you pass someone on a county road. The slower you go the more waves you get. I found that when I go back home I do this out of instinct.

On occasion I will do this in my neighborhood in KC, I have yet to get a wave back.

  1. Too funny! I’ve never heard it called that.

I give the “farmer’s wave” to people I pass on my road (the dirt road I’m on, and the county road that I take to get to it).

I also wave at people on tractors and lawnmowers and such. Most of the time they wave back, or at least nod. When they don’t, I always thing “hmm…must be from out of town” :)

  2. Beau – that is exactly what I think also, “must not be from around here.”

  3. funny :o ) i grew up doing that. took me FOREVER to finally quell the urge to do it once i moved to springfield. now i find that when i go home i’m caught off guard when people do it to me and don’t remember in time to wave back. they’re probably thinking what you’re thinking… “must be from out of town”

  4. What are all you fine country folk doin in the big city anyway? I just wave anyway, it’s fun!
